Crispin \u00a0(Writer beware webpage)<\/li>\n<li>Lucienne Diver<\/li>\n<li>Brent Weeks<\/li>\n<li>John Berlyne<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Literary agents get paid after the deal. \u00a0They get commission. \u00a0You should NOT have to pay them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Need to have contracts. \u00a0Need to have agents to deal with crafting contracts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Agent will help you hold onto your rights.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lots of clauses to watch for.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you write something, you own it. \u00a0The contract is to define what you are selling. \u00a0Setting down the terms of the business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Real agents don&#8217;t advertise. \u00a0Real publishers don&#8217;t advertise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You always get to keep your copyright.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Always read the fine print.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Publishers will not put publicity plans in contract, usually.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The publishing process will make you crazy. \u00a0The agent evens out the crazy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Keep the email trail. \u00a0Goes along with record keeping.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Contracts can be added to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have to negotiate contract with agent without the help of an agent. \u00a0Best to use writer&#8217;s beware and peers to help with that. \u00a0There are boiler plate contracts to help, too.<\/p>\n<p>[Note written in the margins &#8212; agentquery.com]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Self-publishing doesn&#8217;t usually lead to getting published through a publisher.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday, August 19, 2011 Panelists: Sandra Taylor A.
