I’ve stated before that when I don’t write, I become depressed. \u00a0Writers write. \u00a0It’s in their blood, and when they’re not writing, it’s unhealthy.<\/p>\n
But that’s not the only reason I write. \u00a0There are other reasons.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I write to entertain people.<\/strong><\/p>\n I like being on stage musicals. \u00a0I like performing in front of a crowd\u00a0with a band.<\/p>\n I like giving someone a story that brightens their world for a little while.<\/p>\n Underneath it all, I want to make people happy. \u00a0I try to be polite. \u00a0I listen. \u00a0As I’ve told my son, I want to make the world a little bit better than the way I found it. \u00a0One of the ways I can do that is by making my stories as entertaining as I can.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I want to tell people something.<\/strong><\/p>\n I have thoughts and opinions and ideas about how the world should work. \u00a0They’re not necessarily original thoughts. \u00a0I have strong feelings about personal responsibility, integrity, and freedom. \u00a0These are the driving ideas behind the fantasy story that’s taking me forever.<\/p>\n I have ideas that I want to put out into the world. \u00a0Stating them flatly doesn’t feel like enough. \u00a0Demonstrating them with characters in a fictional world might not be enough, but it feels like the right place to start.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Someday, I want to write for a living.<\/strong><\/p>\n This is different than, “I’m doing it for the money.” I’m not doing it for the money. \u00a0I don’t expect to get rich from writing. \u00a0In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if I never make a dime.<\/p>\n I hope to sell my stories, however.<\/p>\n Let me put it in words that Princess Leia would understand: If money was all that I loved, then that’s what I would try to receive.<\/p>\n It’s not, though. \u00a0I could make a lot of money as a programmer. \u00a0The problem is that programming doesn’t satisfy my soul. \u00a0Writing does. \u00a0So I hope that someday, I’ll reach a point in my writing career that I can just depend on it. \u00a0I think that would make me very happy.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There are other reasons I write, but those are the major reasons. \u00a0If you’re like me, then it helps to check your motivations from time to time. \u00a0Without proper motivation, it’s easy to slack off and procrastinate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’ve stated before that when I don’t write, I become depressed. \u00a0Writers write. \u00a0It’s in their blood, and when they’re not writing, it’s unhealthy.
