It wouldn’t do to mess up Blogtober on Day 2, but apparently I needed a nap after work that took me all the way to 10PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That’s okay. There’s still time, and this should be an easy one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I went 5 years without a haircut, and my hair grew really long. The longest strands could touch my belt. Lots of dark, lots of gray, and a little bit of curl in it, my hair drew many compliments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melissa is the reason I grew it out in the first place. She wanted to know what I’d look like with long hair, and she often enjoyed braiding it or helping me put it up. Three years into this experiment, she loved the length. After five years, though, it was too long, even for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I… kind of hated it, most of the time. “It grew on me” was the joke I’d make when people asked about it, and it’s true I enjoyed it from time to time. But mostly, it was a constant inconvenience. It tangled easily. It often wanted to taste my food before I could get it to my mouth. It made showers longer, taking way more shampoo and longer dry times. I was always sitting on it, accidentally pulling it, and it made every day tasks more difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror most of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
